The other is the Scanner mode, which allows you to add recognized text directly into text section as an idea.

Ikes has text recognition capabilities using Apple's Vision Framework. In the latest iOS 15, the following languages are supported.
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Spanish
- 簡体字
- 繁体字
Set the language for text recognition
Whether you are using the OCR or the Scanner mode, you need to specify the target language for text recognition in order to get correct results. When using the text recognition function for the first time, the following setting screen will be displayed. Select the language you want text recognition to be performed in.
The language settings can be changed later in the Settings section of the Manual tab.
How to use OCR
The OCR function can be used for images as shown bellow
- An image to be added in Ikes app
- An image that have already been added in Ikes
- An image to be shared to Ikes in other apps like Safari, Twitter, and so on.
When you add an image or when you open an idea with an image, there is a button “OCR” at the top of the image. When you tap it, automatically Caption section is shown, and "Recognizing..." will be displayed. When the text recognition is completed, the recognized text will be inserted into Caption automatically. If there is already text in Caption, the recognized text will be inserted at the end of it.
If no text is recognized, nothing will be inserted into Caption. If you do not get the expected results, try taking pictures in a brighter area, or make sure the language setting for recognition is correct.
How to use Scanner mode
Tap the Plus button to display the options, and then tap the Scanner mode button.
Once the scanner is open, take a picture of the book or paper you want to scan in a well-lit area. After taking the picture, you can change the area to be scanned for text recognition. For best results, set the rectangle to enclose the text area only. After setting, tap "Keep Scan" in the lower right corner. To retake the image, tap "Retake" in the lower left corner.
If there are more pages to be scanned, repeat the process of scanning and setting the text recognition area.
When all the scans are done, tap "Save" at the bottom right. This will automatically open the Add Text screen where the recognized text will be automatically inserted into Text. If you have scanned more than one document, the text will be inserted as multiple paragraphs with line breaks between them.
